Writing and storytelling have always been a passion of mine. I even remember creating a rough picture book in kindergarten. Recently, it has evolved into writing novels, short stories and plays while exploring all sorts of genres. I look forward to sharing this with students, whether it be engaging them with their favourite books or helping them tell their own stories.
My long-lasting desire to be a teacher has led me to engage opportunities that have allowed me to explore it. During all my university breaks I have gone back to my high school and spent time assisting my previous drama teacher. I help her with running rehearsals and managing the chaotic and fast-paced world of the theatre. I supported and guided the students with blocking, script work, and production elements such as costume and set design. All to help them put on the best show they can. Watching them gain confidence in their show and themselves was always amazing to see.

I also spent the summer of 2019 working at the Historic Stewart Farm. Here I got to give mini-lessons while I toured people around the house, ranging from the Stewart family history to the influenza epidemic of 1919. I also worked with their summer camp program for children ages three to twelve. There I ran historical crafts and activities, such as making thaumatropes and churning butter, to teach them about living on a farm in the 1890s. I love making history come alive for students, reading that people of the past made their own clothes in a textbook can be a wildly different experience from hemming and embroidering a handkerchief yourself.
In the fall of 2019, I had the opportunity of spending two mornings a week in an elementary school in Lethbridge and it further reinforced my love of teaching. Working in a 4/5 class has allowed me opportunities to help students one-on-one in subjects like math, and English Language Arts. I bonded with the students in gym class and recess, as well as during class.

All of these experiences have taught me something, whether it be about classroom management, providing feedback, or planning activities. But I know I have barely skimmed the surface of what being a teacher really means. So, I come my PS1 with an open mind, ready to absorb what I can from this experience,
